
Franz Gerner, 71 of Fremont, OH passed away on May 20, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 1, 1945 in Yugoslavia to Jakob and Margaretha (Vogel) Gerner. Franz moved from Germany to the United States with his family when he was ten years old. He was a 1964 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967 and was stationed at Fort Carson, CO. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Franz married Anne Breon on April 6, 1968 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue, OH and she survives. He enjoyed being a Realtor for over forty-five years and loved being part of the Bolte Realty “family.” He managed the Fremont and Clyde offices. He also worked for Kellogg in Fremont until he retired in 2006.
Franz was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Fremont Eagles. He was an avid Ohio State fan. He and his wife hosted an annual OSU Michigan party for over thirty-five years. He also loved to travel and spend time with his family especially attending his grandchildren’s events.
Franz is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Anne Gerner, Fremont; children, Suzanne (John) Lozano, Saginaw, MI, Krista Gerner, Fremont and Matthew Gerner, Upper Arlington, OH; grandchildren, Cody (Erin Fagan) Foos, Akron, OH, Kayla and Kyle Foos both of Fremont, Alyssa, Alec and Tyler Lozano all of Saginaw, MI; great grandson, Jayden Foos; siblings, Nick Gerner and Erika (Joe) Garlock both of Fremont; sister-in-law, Beverly Gerner of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gunther Gerner.
Visitation: Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Service: Thursday, May 25, 2017; 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1187 Co Rd 128, Fremont, OH with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Robert Young will officiate.
Burial: Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont, OH
Memorials: Faith Lutheran Church, Hospice of ProMedica Memorial Hospital or American Diabetes Association.
