Dina was a cherished student in my pre-vocational class at School of Hope. She filled our hearts with true joy. My memories of her only bring smiles as I recall her head-shaking when she spotted a dirty mug on my desk “Nalley, gross.” Then she’d pick it up, take it to the sink and wash it. I enjoyed sharing this with her mother at conferences, where, acting shocked, she said “Dina actually washed your dishes?” A princess at home, I know.. She had a best friend in class, Harold, who she liked to help (okay, more like boss around and tell him what to do.) I liked to partner them, because it was a rare sight to see them both forget their shyness when together. They both were committed to helping each other. I followed their cart in the grocery store overhearing “Dina, Dina, Dina. ” Then, “Oh, Harold!!” like an old married couple. And the morning after our class trip to a cabin at a state park, Dina announced to everyone then and many times later “Nalley, you snore!” while just shaking her head at me. I will miss her dearly, but cherish the joy she brought to my life.
