Doris I. O’Brien, 92, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 8, 1926 in Fremont to Bernard R. and Lucille (Klein) Cole. She was a 1944 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University.

Doris married Patrick W. O’Brien, Jr. on March 17, 1950 at Grace Lutheran Church. They were married for sixty-five years and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2016. Doris was an Elementary School Teacher for both Fremont City and Clyde Schools. She also taught English at Terra Community College.

Doris was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was an avid poetry writer and enjoyed crossword puzzles and cooking. Doris loved to watch basketball and baseball games, especially the Cleveland Indians, with her family.

Doris is survived by her children, Patti (Tom Poorman) Metcalf, Thomas O’Brien, John O’Brien all of Fremont, Christine (James) McArthur, Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Ryan (Alisa) Metcalf, Drew (Kariena) Wetzel, Kelley (Kaylyn Tarkington) O’Brien, Casey (Danielle) O’Brien, Joshua O’Brien, John A. (Mahalia) O’Brien, Alexandra McArthur and Ariel (Nestor) Carrera; sister, Phyllis Mae Jess, Fremont, OH and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Patrick W. O’Brien and grandson, Justin O’Brien.

Private services will be held at a later date with burial taking place at Mount Lebanon Cemetery.
