I’ll never forget you bro. You were my best friend that I’ve ever had. You always cheered me up when I was down, and always said something completely ridiculous (and usually a little gay as well) just to make me laugh. You were taken from us all way too soon, but God needed you with him. You got my word I’ll always look out for your fam no matter what. Love you bro

Derek and I first met around 1995 as we were in the same camp fire group at misty meadows. His grandmother Judy was one of the helpers in our group. Derek and I were also teammates on the same elementary school boys basketball team for Otis Elementary school. I would like to Express my deepest condolences to all his family.

I am so sad to hear about Derek’s passing. Tried looking you up on FB. He was such an amazing person. From toddler to grown man. I can’t take away your pain. I wish I could. We both know from losing loved ones in past that there is absolutely nothing I can say to ease your pain. Just please know he will never be forgotten. He touched a lot of people’s hearts and lives. To Derek’s Family,
I arrived at the Salvation Army in Toledo, lost, Broken, hopeless, and the Sally was my last option before I committed suicide.I was there waiting and this happy, outspoken, loud, dude came and introduced himself as Derek…Derek talked to me when I wanted to leave, and helped me through alot. Your son, father, brother, ECT led me to the happiness he had..
Much love and respect to you all and I’m praying for each one of you.
Rest Easy Bro, thank you Derek for helping me through the darkest times of my life..
Love ya bro.
