Dennis Lee Smith, 71, of Fremont, OH passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital. He was born March 22, 1947 in Fremont to Earl and Doris (Zweily) Smith. He was a 1965 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

Dennis served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter repairman during the Vietnam War. He was a SP5 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Sharpshooter Badge (M-14) and Aircraft Crewman Badge with 3 O/S Bars. He worked as a small tool repair man at Whirlpool from 1965 to 2012 when he retired. Dennis was a member of the Fremont Eagles and enjoyed fishing.

Dennis is survived by his siblings, Eugene E. Smith, Tiffin, OH and Kimberly Zaleski, Akron, OH; nephews and niece, Steven Gibson, Aaron Zaleski, Timothy Setzler, Michelle Bishop and Gary Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Barbara Smith.

Visitation: Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 10:00 am until Noon at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.

Services will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Miller officiating.

Burial will take place at McGormley Cemetery, Fremont

Memorials can be made to the Humane Society of Sandusky County in Dennis’s name.

Dear Kim, Stephen, Tim, & Aaron,
I am so sorry to learn of your brother/uncle’s passing. I can only imagine how hard this is being so close to the time of year when Chris passed. You are in my thoughts and prayers as you mourn the passing of Dennis. May your faith give your family strength and comfort at this time.
