Clara “Claire” T. Hampshire

Hampshire Clara RESIZEDjpg

Clara “Claire” T. Hampshire, 82, of Fremont, OH passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Bethesda Care Center.  She was born on June 18, 1939 on a farm in Ballville Twp. and was very proud of that, daughter of Aloysius “Ollie” and Eva Marie “Effie” (Requette) Omlor.  She was a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph High School.  Claire married Grover “Jack” Chalet on March 21, 1964 and he passed away on April 1, 1987.  She married Richard “Dick” E. Hampshire on May 26, 1989 at Sacred Heart Church and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2015.

She loved the lake where she spent many weekends with her children and their friends when they were young and in her later years spending time in Michigan and the north eastern United States. She was known as mom, or “Mrs. C”, to most of the neighborhood kids and the #1 Fan of “Her Boys” the Detroit Tigers. She was loved by everyone and always had a story to share that included some of the silliest details only she could remember.

Claire worked for CalVan Tools starting in the early 70’s where she utilized her people skills to build up the veteran grave marker division. She didn’t just sell the product, she made friends. She took pride in her job and honoring our veterans. When CalVan was sold, the CenTec Cast Metal Products Company was created taking her and the marker division with them. She retired in 2010.

Claire was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church where her faith carried her through many heartaches and tragedies over the years. She never asked why, only prayed for the strength to move forward. God blessed her with a heart of gold and He gained a special angel when she left us. She also enjoyed music, reading, cooking and flowers.

Claire is survived by her children, Lisa (Chris Sims) Mitten, Fremont, OH; Anthony (Ya) Chalet, North Ridgeville, OH; grandchildren, Christopher (Jessica) Meadows, Bradley Mitten, Brian Mitten, Leah Chalet, Lauren (Derek) Hill and Steven (Emily Swift) Chalet; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Toots!”

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Grover “Jack” Chalet; 2nd husband, Richard “Dick” Hampshire; siblings, Delores “Sis” Norton, Vincent “Pete” Omlor, Sr. Mary Rita Omlor, Bernard “Butch” Omlor, Charles “Bud” Omlor and Gerard “Skeeter” Omlor; granddaughter, Emily Mitten and stepson, Paul Chalet.

Visitation:  Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial:  Tuesday, May 3, 10:00 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1021 W. State St, Fremont, OH.

Burial:  St. Joseph Cemetery

Memorials can be made in Clair’s honor to St. Ann Catholic Church or Bethesda Care Center.
