Betty L. Swartz, 87, of Fremont, OH, has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 29th, 2016, at Bethesda Care Center. Left to mourn her loss are children, James (Nancy) Swartz and Lee Swartz of Fremont, David (Curt) Swartz of Toledo, Jackie (Rich) Vukovcan of Ambridge, Pa., Madeline (Rick) Koebel of Colorado Springs, Co., Sally Suchy of Longmeadow, Mass., and Michele Swartz of Tiffin, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 3 step grandsons, 32 great grandchildren with a great grandson due in August, and 7 step great grandchildren.
Betty was born on January 1, 1929, in Fremont, the daughter of Bernard and Lula (Schneider) Wolf. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. On August 29, 1946, she married Gerald L Swartz at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on November 28, 1996.
She was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she helped with various activities and funeral luncheons through the years. She loved to travel and spent every winter in Melbourne, Florida, after her husband retired from serving the community as a fireman. They were able to travel throughout the country from Maine to California before her husband passed. Betty, also, enjoyed her bi-monthly card clubs with her many friends and going to the casinos. She spent her younger years as a stay at home mom raising her family that she loved dearly. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Just before her death on Friday, Mike Koebel, a friend of the family, presented Betty with a rosary that was blessed by Pope Francis on Mike’s recent visit to the Vatican.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald, and siblings, Jackie, Billy, Robert, and Ralph Wolf, Madaline Druckenmiller Freeh, and Claudia McFann.
The family would like to thank Mike Koebel for his thoughtfulness, her niece, Vicki Wolf Hoffman, for giving their Mother communion, and to the staff of Bethesda Care Center and Elmwood Nursing Home of Fremont and to all of her wonderful caregivers for the excellent care given to Betty.
Family and friends will be welcomed at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State Street, Fremont, OH, on Thursday, May 5, 2016, from 2 – 6 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, 10:30 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1021 W. State St, Fremont with Fr. Michael Zacharias officiating.

Jim, Lee and family:
Your beautiful mother was a wonderful lady. We are so sorry for your loss; however, Betty is now at peace and no longer suffering. Betty was the picture of what a classy, wonderful Grandma is. We really enjoyed talking to her at Elmwood when Mom was there. Please gain peace knowing she is now at peace. As hard of journey as it was, it was made easier by being with wonderful families such as yours.
May God Bless,
