
Betty J. Cress, 86, of Fremont, OH passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Promedica Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 29, 1928 in Fremont, the daughter of Rudolph C. and Mary M. (Rice) Forgatsch. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.
Betty married Kenneth Cress on May 20, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church and he preceded her in death in 1992. Betty worked in the mail room at the News Messenger and also worked at Ferd’s Market for twenty-two years. She retired in 1989.
Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Moose, Eagles, VFW and the Tackle Box II. She enjoyed spending time at the cottage on the Sandusky River and spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Deborah L. (Ernest) Blohm and Kimberly S. Cress both of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Kelly S. Shaffer, Fremont, OH, Kenneth J. (Nichole) Blohm and Kamee L. (Chad) Plough both of Fremont, OH; sisters-in-law, Jeri Hess of Alaska; Marian Forgatsch, Fremont, OH; great grandchildren, Dylan Blohm, Tristin Turner, Dalton Blohm, Reagan Shaffer and Taylor Plough; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Cress; brothers, Harold R. Forgatsch and Louis W. Forgatsch; sister, Leota M. Schatt.
Visitation: Tuesday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Services: Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 10:30 am at the funeral home with Fr. Kenneth Lill officiating.
Burial: Oakwood Cemetery
Memorials: Society Protection of Animals (SPA) or the Humane Society of Sandusky County.
