
Berta “Wicha” M. Arriaga, 91, of Fremont, OH passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, January 02, 2017 at Bethesda Care Center. She was born on March 10, 1925 in Laredo, TX, the daughter of Severiano and Cayetana (Quintanilla) Lopez.
Berta married Francisco Arriaga on January 16, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1964.
Berta was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Guadalupe Society. She loved cooking, sewing, crossword puzzles and dancing in her younger years.
Berta is survived by her children, Armandina Arriaga, Toledo, OH, Alejandro (Susie) Arriaga, Gibsonburg, OH, Angie (Richard) Wammes, Fremont, OH, Jane Lopez, Genoa, OH, Guillermo “Willie” Arriaga, Lorain, OH, Carmen (Julian) Garza, Floresville, TX, José Arriaga, New York, NY, Diana Arriaga, Fremont, OH; sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francisco Arriaga; daughter, Norma A. Nickelson; many brothers and sisters.
Visitation: Thursday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.
Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, January 6, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 317 E. Madison St, Gibsonburg, OH, with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Fr. Chris Bazer will officiate.
Burial: St. Lawrence Cemetery, Gibsonburg
