Alfred A. Lopez, 99, of Fremont, OH passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at TriHealth Bethesda Butler Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He was born on September 3, 1923 in Cygnet, OH to Felix and Ella (Roman) Lopez. Alfred married Eileen L. Thompson on April 29, 1946 in Fremont and she preceded him in death on February 26, 1978. He worked in the maintenance department at Kelsey Hayes for forty-eight years and retired in 1988. Alfred was active in the AFL-CIO Local 1915 and was instrumental in getting the union into Kelsey Hayes. He also served as Sandusky County Council President. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Alfred was proud of his Hispanic Heritage and was a lifeline to many people in the Spanish Community to make a new life. He was bilingual and helped with calls at the hospital and courthouse. Alfred loved his family and was always there to listen and help. He loved to socialize and enjoyed parades, fireworks and the circus. He was also a member of the Democratic Party.
Alfred is survived by his children, Linda (William) Novitski, Liberty Twp, OH; David (Cheryl Nye) Lopez, Lincoln University, PA, Deborah (Thomas) Andosca, Norwalk, OH and Annette Weltin, Fremont, OH; siblings, Augustus (Betty) Lopez, Delores Lopez, Connie Gallatin and Jeanie (Randy) Velliquette; grandchildren, Michael (Angie) Baker, Jr., Angela (Eric) Hughes, Matthew Baker, Richard (Jodi) Weltin, Cassandra (Corey Straub) Walter, James (Heather McLaughlin) Weltin; sister-in-law, Harriet Lopez; fourteen great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen L. Lopez; siblings, Elpideo Lopez, Maria Lopez, Roman Lopez, Henry Lopez, Phyllis Hernandez, Emily Martin, Felicia Brown, Beesabel Lopez, Carmalita Lopez and son-in-law, Mark Weltin.
Visitation: Monday from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH 43420 with a vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, January 3, 2023, 11:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 500 Smith Rd, Fremont, OH with an hour of visitation from 10:30 to 11:30 at the church.
