Thomas A. Rich

Thomas A. Rich, 87, of Fremont, OH passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 13, 1926 in Fremont, the son of Victor and Harriet (Kiser) Rich. He was a 1944 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

Tom served his country in WWII in the Pacific Theatre; he was a member of Army 551st M.P.E.G. Company. Tom was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Overseas Service bar and the Good Conduct Medal.

Tom married Virginia Camp on May 28, 1949 at St. Joseph Church in Fremont and she survives. He retired in 1990 as co-owner of Progress Design & Machine, Inc. in Clyde, OH. In his early life Tom enjoyed bowling, was a pilot of single engine airplanes, golfing, fishing, boating, photography and sports. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus, Fremont Country Club, Fremont Moose and SJCC Booster Club. He was instrumental in the beginning of the SJCC Pete Naderer Sports Complex and was honored when the baseball field was named after him. He was proud to have made the Honor Flight trip to Washington DC in 2012. But his first loves were faith and his family. He especially loved his “little people” or grandchildren. He had a passion for the Detroit Tigers.
