Okey Eugene Hendricks
Okey Eugene Hendricks, 82, of Ashland, OH and formerly of Fremont, OH, passed away, Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland, OH. He was born on January 10, 1932 in Parkersburg, WV to Okey Theodore and Mary Frances (Golden) Hendricks.
Okey married Zella M. Stewart in 1950 in Kentucky and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2004. Okey is survived by his five children, Karen (Lester) Franks, Paula Hendricks, David Hendricks, Richard (Jan) Hendricks, Joseph (Barbara) Hendricks, all of Fremont; sisters, Barbara Ann Thompson, Concord, NC, Shirley May Hendricks, Parkersburg, WV; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is his wife of thirty-four years, Karen and his dog, Buddy.
Okey worked for Herbrand until they closed and then went to work for Dana Corporation, in Toledo, as a machinist, retiring in 1990. He also worked for Ocala Breeder Sales Harness Racetrack in Ocala, Florida, where he resided with his wife, Karen for seventeen years. Okey was a member of On Top of the World’s Men’s Golf Association. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and harness racing. Okey loved to take golf cart rides with his dog, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Zella Marie Hendricks; sister, Betty McPherson; brother, Robert Hendricks and grandson, Scott Franks.
Visitation: Wednesday from Noon to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH.
Service: Wednesday, June 4, 2014, 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial: Thursday, June 5, 2014, 1:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery.
