Norman Howard Horn

Norman Howard Horn, 85, of Fremont, OH went peacefully to sing with the choir of angels on April 2, 2014. He was born June 5, 1928 in Fremont, the son of Harry A. and Clara S. (Miller) Horn. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

Norm served as a medic in the U.S. Army, 40th Division Artillery, from October, 1950 to October, 1952 during the Korean War. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with 1 BCS.

Norm married Barbara A. Crockett on September 17, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clyde, OH and she survives. He worked as Parts Manager at Wright Motors in Clyde retiring in 1986.

Norm loved singing and was the first choir director for Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a lifelong member of the choir. He loved spending time with his family, tinkering with clocks, and working in the yard and garden. He always said he was “chief cook and bottle washer.” Norm enjoyed inventing and building useful and interesting gadgets to make life easier around the home and was a willing partner in Barb’s creative endeavors. Norm and Barb spent many wonderful days riding their bicycle built for two, traveling 15,584.2 miles but always ending up back at the home they shared together for fifty-eight years. Their favorite place was the summerhouse in their backyard amidst the flowers and birds.

Norm is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Gregory A. (Karen) Horn, Green Springs, OH, Scott H. Horn, Fremont, OH, Brian C. Horn, Tiffin, OH and Amy M. (Edward Kelly) Horn, Burtonsville, MD; grandchildren Kendra L. (Marcin) Piasecki and Thomas A. Horn and great-grandaughter Ella L. Piasecki.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Richard W.,Walter J., Helen M., Bernadine L. (Horn) Damschroder, Jim N., and Dorothy C. (Horn) Macielewicz.
