Maria L. Popoca

Maria L. Popoca, 84, of Fremont, OH passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013 at University of Toledo Medical Center. She was born on November 20, 1928 in Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Angel and Aurora (Acosta Nieves) Lozano.

Maria married Gonzalo V. Popoca on October 27, 1947 in Palacio Dgo, Mexico. They came to Fremont in 1968. Gonzalo preceded her in death on February 20, 2010.

Maria worked at the Fremont Kraut Company for fifteen years and then for H.J. Heinz Co. for eight years until she retired. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, shopping and she loved her mexican soap operas. Maria was a good, hardworking woman who loved to take care of her family and cook.

Maria is survived by her children, Jose A. Popoca, Maria Conception Garcia, Juan M. Popoca, Leticia (Henry) Cruz and Gonzalo Popoca, Jr. all of Fremont and Juana Maria (Dennis) Mook of Clyde, OH; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gonzalo V. Popoca; infant son, Lorenzo Popoca and sister, Elvira Macias.
