Ethella Margaret Cook

Ethella Margaret (Hartenstein) Cook, age 85, of Fremont, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky. She was born on September 2, 1928 in Liberty Township, Seneca County, to Alfred F. and Cora A. (Bullinger) Hartenstein. She was a 1946 graduate of Bettsville High School.

Ethella married Albert D. Cook on October 1, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont by Fr. Bertrand Schenk. They shared 64 wonderful years together.

Ethella worked for Howard Zink’s in Fremont after high school. She was primarily a homemaker after marriage, occasionally working for her sister’s farm.

Ethella was one of the founding members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was member of the Sacred Heart choir and Altar Rosary Society. She was known for her love of gardening, canning, family parties & get-togethers, yard work, traveling, and volunteering for her church. She was also a 4-H advisor and taught sewing.

Along with her husband Albert, she is survived by her fifteen children; Marsha Cook, Fremont, Ronald (Norma) Cook, Huron, OH Gene (Becky) Cook, Clyde, OH, Loraine (Mitch) Luman, Evansville, IN, Bruce Cook, Chuluota, FL, Andrea Carter, Fremont, Jude (Lisa) Cook, Fremont, Christopher Cook, New Albany, OH, Norman (Tess) Cook, Fremont, Patrice (John) Beauchemin, Fairfax Station, VA, Dale (Anne) Cook, Port Clinton, OH, Karen (George) Weissinger, Fremont, Teresa (Kevin) Wasserman, Woodville, OH, Scott (Denise) Cook, North Lawrence, OH and Edward Cook, Perrysburg, OH.

She is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Austin, Jason, Kevin, Adam, Dean, Jeremy, David, Nathan, Tyler, Elijah, Kyle, Caroline, Keith, Travis, Natalie, Eric, Ellen, Andrew, Megan, Rachel, Jacob, Jared, Callie, Bennett, Ava, Danielle, Matthew, and step-grandson Cameron; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Alfreda Dannemiller of Willard, OH, Paul (Evelyn) Hartenstein of Wakeman, OH, Stephen (Carmela) Hartenstein and Judith Schleter of Tiffin, OH, Gregory (Elaine) Hartenstein of Henrietta, NY, Patrick (Ann) of New Riegel, OH, and Michael (Sue) Hartenstein of Fremont; brothers-in-law Ray Cunningham of Fremont and Stanley Miller of Tiffin, OH; sister-in-law Marilyn (Cook) Freeh of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cook; parents; sisters, Gladys Cunningham and Mercedes Miller; and granddaughters, Brianna and Autumn Carter.

Visitation: Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory 425 E. State St, Fremont, OH 43420.

A Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, October 31, 2013, 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Road, Fremont, OH with Fr. Kenneth Lill officiating.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont.

Memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools, and Stein Hospice of Sandusky.
