Edwin C. Nitschke

Edwin C. Nitschke, 87, of Fremont, OH passed away at home on Monday, August 28, 2017. He was born on July 19, 1930 in Fremont to Helmuth and Elizabeth (Kollat) Nitschke. He was a 1948 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy from August 1, 1948 to March 8, 1950 aboard the U.S.S. AMPHIN. He married Mary J. Lawley on May 11, 1953 in Indiana and she survives.

Ed worked as a Machine Builder at EPCO until he retired in 1992. He had previously worked at Pet Milk, Whirlpool and National Machine. Ed enjoyed wintering in Florida for twenty years, driving, traveling, playing the Lottery, fishing, swimming and gardening.

Ed is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Nitschke; daughters, Christine (William) Hoffman and Diana (David) Young, all of Fremont, OH; brother, Gene Nitschke, Brookings, SD; grandchildren, Chad Hoffman, Angie Hibbler, Sara and Joy Hoffman, Ronald and Kiel Young, Jennifer Jones; great grandchildren, Chloe, Justus and Anna Hibbler, Kihanna Young, Kaureena Aldrige, Kody Young and Kaydin Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Edwin C. Nitschke, Jr.; sister, Alma Reichart and brothers, Lewis and Albert Nitschke.

Visitation: Friday, September 1, 2017, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Grace Community Church, 900 Smith Rd, Fremont, OH.

Services will begin at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Tim Wisehart officiating.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the V.F.W. and American Legion.

Memorials: The Humane Society of Sandusky County or Grace Community Food Pantry.
