Bernard “Ben” L. Bartson

Bernard “Ben” L. Bartson, 82, of Fremont, OH passed away on October 3, 2015 at Elmwood at the Springs in Green Springs, OH. He was born on May 26, 1933 in Fremont the son of George and Clara (Ehrman) Bartson. He served in the US Army. Ben married Helen (Kreager) Frey on December 29, 1976 and she survives.

Ben was a welder at Ford in Sandusky from 1966 until he retired in 1990. He was also an entrepreneur with many businesses in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. He was a member Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.

Ben is survived by his wife, Helen Bartson, Fremont; step-children, Terry (Janet) Frey, Randy (Kathy) Frey both of Fremont, Jeff (Mara) Frey, North Lawrence, OH and Linda (Collin) Maidens, Lebanon, VA; brothers, Larry Bartson and Don (Judy) Bartson both of Fremont; nine step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosemary Harnden.

Visitation: Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, October 7, 2015; 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd., Fremont, OH with Fr. John Blaser officiating with visitation from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the mass.

Burial: Dana Cemetery, Greek Creek Township with military honors provided by the American Legion and V.F.W.

Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice
